How Would You Describe Yourself To A Sketch Artist?

Women tend to be very critical of themselves, especially about how they look.

Not all women, but certainly many of them.

If you had to describe yourself to a sketch artist, how do you think your picture would look?

What about if your very best friend in the whole word described you, do you think that picture would be different?

You bet it would. In almost every case.

Dove did a very interesting experiment. They hired a sketch artist to draw women as they described themselves. The same women also had to spend some time “getting friendly” with someone they didn’t know.

OK, not quite the same as talking to their BFF, but still someone that has had a positive experience with these women.

Then this person described the woman to the same sketch artist.

The two drawings were shown side by side. What do you think they showed – did they look like the same person?

Of course not! The second one was much prettier than the first.

We need to be kinder to ourselves, more forgiving, looking for the best within us, and not so quick to judge ourselves.
