How To Clean Up The Mess When Work Gets Sticky

Anytime other people are involved there is going to be an opportunity for awkwardness and drama! Just part of human nature, I guess…

Take work for example.

You go to the office and you work hard, do your job to the best of your abilities, you would think that would be all there is to it.

Not the case.

Enter other people…

Sometimes there are people that try to take credit for what you have done, or someone is looking for a recommendation that you cannot give (because you know their work doesn’t deserve it).

Abigail Libers shares her take on what to do for some of these “sticky situations,” click here to check it out.

This is a great list of situations that people deal with at work every day and she gives some good advice.

What are the uncomfortable situations that you have run into at work?

I remember years ago when one of my very first bosses started hinting around about – um – extra-curricular activities. I pretended that I had no clue about what he was talking about and that seemed to put an end to that uncomfortable train of thought.

I was probably fortunate that he took the hint so quickly!

Then there is the paycheck.

Most of us are really curious about what others make in our office, right? But generally no one talks about their salary, which is usually best for everyone involved.

A friend once had an assignment that gave her access to what people made, and felt the need to let me know too. Very bad. The person that was always schmoozing with the bosses, and did the least amount of work, was getting paid the most.

I ended up leaving that job after realizing that was not going to change (had a couple of chats with my boss).

AND I moved on to another job that gave me the experience that allowed me to travel to and work in some wonderful places.

Think through these difficult situations, then take the action that feels right to you. If it feels right, it usually is!
