5 Tips For Dating Post-35

Do you think that dating after the age of 35 is any more difficult than it is when you are younger?

People seem to generally think so, although I don’t agree with that – I think it has to do more with your expectations. That, and the fact that the older we get the more we tend to stop and analyze everything rather than just going with the moment.

Don’t you agree?

But if you are wanting to start dating again, and find that it is making you feel anxious, here are some tips to help make you relax and have fun!

1. Listen.

Yep, men aren’t the only ones that can be “bad listeners.” Sometimes you can be so caught up thinking about what clever thing you are going to say next, that you forget to focus on what he is saying! Listen to all of it, even if you don’t find it that interesting, and even ask a question or two.

If you like this guy at all, the relationship will be off to a much better start if he feels that you think he is interesting!

And you might learn a thing or two!

2. Remember he isn’t going to change.

Probably not ever, regardless of what you do, so it is not worth even trying. So tell yourself right from the very beginning that what you see is what you get, and don’t convince yourself with a tweak here and there he may make the grade.

If you like him, you like him – if you don’t, then just move on.

3. Mysterious is Good.

Don’t just blurt out your entire life story to him on the first date – or even on the second. Curiosity only killed the cat, but in relationships it can keep the interest going until he likes you so much there is no turning back!

Provided you feel the same way of course…

4. You are over 35 but you are not dead!

You still have a lot of time left in front of you, so don’t worry that you haven’t met The One yet. If the guy you just went out with doesn’t do it for you, don’t just settle for mediocrity. You will be happier to continue on your own for a while rather than settling for someone just because they are there.

A bad relationship is much worse than being alone.

5. Be willing to try something new.

So what that you have never been hiking before, or gone cross-country skiing. If your new date thinks that would be fun, why not give it a try. You may find out that you really enjoy the new activity even if it doesn’t work out with him!
