Is Meditation The Way to Sexual Bliss?

Every day we are bombarded with various media touting SEX, SEX, SEX…Would it surprise you to find out that Americans have less frequent sex than couples in any other country?  Or that the American Medical Association says that 40 Million adults in American do not have ANY sex with their partners?

Wow – that sucks! (Or more accurately, it doesn’t…)

Recently, Huffington Post published an article about an interview with Jill Blakeway, who wrote the book “Sex Again: Recharging Your Libido.”

In today’s fast paced society with more demands than ever on our time, people are just too stressed out to give sex the attention that it deserves – that THEY deserve!

So, how does one go about getting back to a place where sex is a welcomed activity?

According to Ms. Blakeway, you can increase your libido at the same time you reduce stress by practicing meditation. She claims that by practicing a simple breathing meditation you can can reduce your stress levels, lower blood pressure, and circulate oxygen – all of which can increase receptivity to sex.

One of the issues that men and women report about unsatisfactory sex is that they have so much going on that they are easily distracted – to do lists, things going on at work, etc. How can anyone have an orgasm when thinking about so many other things?

One of the goals and benefits of meditation is to train your mind to be focused on the now. Once you relearn how to do that, it is much easier to be aware of pleasant and exciting sensations in your body. Sex is largely a “mind game” and awareness is necessary for enjoyment.

Meditation and breathing exercises can help the enjoyment men feel as well. She has full explanations of a couple of meditative exercises for men that can help them get more enjoyment from sex – partially by delaying climax. (Admit it ladies, that would be good for everyone involved!)

Many people feel uncomfortable about meditation – they do not think they can be still long enough to do it.  By starting with simple breathing, where you focus on inhaling into the belly, and then letting the breath go, is simple for most and helps to focus your energy into your abdomen. At the same time it assists in tapping into sensations in that area which also tunes you into your sexual energy.

Once you get accustomed to this simple breathing, you can move into other meditations, including simply spending a few quiet moments thinking about sex with your partner. GOOD thoughts only! Spending some time thinking regularly and positively about your sex life brings it front and center to your brain – setting you up for a rekindled interest in sex.

She even includes some meditations that you can do WITH your partner.

I think we should rise above those other countries that are having more sex than we are, what do you think?
