Busy, Busy….
If you are like most of us, you find that every day is so full of events and must-do’s that you have no time left for fun – or you are not able to make plans with a friend because THEY are so busy.
It seems to just be getting crazier. It almost seems as if the more information we have to deal with the less time we have to deal with it.
Of course, as Daniel Newman reminds us in a recent article on Huffington Post, many of us use the degree to which we work “hard” to be the measure of our productivity.
More is better, right?
Well, does being “busier” actually mean that you are getting more done? Are we REALLY productive, or just going through the motions?
How much time did you spend reading your email today? Yesterday?
It would be great if we could all learn to use our time more wisely, to prioritize our activities, and even drop things off of our to-do lists if they don’t really add value.
I like Newman’s idea of “spending time chasing outcomes instead of activity.”
Here are some of the questions you can ask yourself to be sure your activity is useful:
1. What are the most important things that I need to do in this X time frame (the next hour, the morning? Use whatever time period works for you, in the chunks you normally tackle things.)
2. What Key activities will help me achieve or get closer to these goals.
3. Do I have enough time to actually WORK on these items, or are there too many things on my calendar that are not useful?
