A mother/daughter pair doing detective work together, that is…
I recently read on the Hollywood Reporter that there was going to be a new TV show pilot on ABC called Murder in Manhattan.
It will be starring Annie Potts as a Park Avenue widow that has 2 grown children. She and her daughter, played by Bridget Regan, team up together as amateur sleuths.
As a former, avid Nancy Drew fan, I really LIKE female detectives, and I am excited to see how this show will play out!
You have probably already figured out that the show will take place in New york…
This made me think of mother-daughter relationships and the bond that exists between them, especially with Mother’s Day coming up in just a few weeks.
There are many famous mother-daughter combinations, and what first comes to mind are famous entertainment pairs:
- Goldie Hawn and Kate Hudson
- Judy Garland and Liza Minnelli
- Janet Leigh and Jamie Lee Curtis
- Naomi Judd and Ashley Judd
Just to name a few. But I was looking for other pairs that weren’t necessarily part of that industry and I found a great article on Listverse.com: http://listverse.com/2012/05/07/top-10-famous-mothers-and-their-daughters/
They make the point that being the daughter of a great, well-known woman has to result in a lot of pressure to measure up to the image that came before.
The women they highlight in their article are examples of strong women who passed the strength on to their daughters, and they include historical women that made a significant difference in the world, famous women we have come to love as well as fictional families that gave us great examples. Royalty, scientists, religious figures, authors – these maternal bonds helped bolster the character of their offspring who in turn had significant impact on the world.
If you have a strong link to your mother or to your daughter(s) I encourage you to read the article.
“The love between a mother and her daughter is special. A mother takes her daughter under her wing and teaches her how to be a woman. In order to do this, you have to ask yourself what it means to be a woman of today. How do you balance care for others with your own quest for meaning and joy in life and how do you pass on these lessons to your daughter?” – Laura Ramirez
