A lot of us women are closet groupies. How many of you had a crush on at least one of those guys in the band in high school – and even after?
Do you swoon (inside only of course!) at the site of a guy on the stage picking away on that guitar?
There are many women that would say yes to all of the above, and that led to a couple of recent studies on the attractiveness of male musicians.
One study was done in France by the Universate de Bretagne-Sud, who sent an attractive 20 year old male out to hit on 300 women, always using the same lines (isn’t that just like a man?).
When the man carried a guitar case, he was given the women’s phone numbers 31% of the time, while when he carried nothing he only scored 14% of the time.
Another study was done on Facebook, where women accepted friend requests three times more often if the man was shown playing a guitar.
So the studies proved that women were more attracted to musicians, but they aren’t really sure why that is.
There are different theories, although it will be tough to prove which one is true. My vote is on the one where we culturally link musical ability with celebrity and success.
